- NY 9393 ELSDON ELSDON 19/9 Bacchus House (formerly listed as Bacchus House and Bacchus Cottage North) GV II House, originally an inn and divided for a period into 3 properties. Early C18, cross wing added late C18 or early C19. Dressed stone; later wing ashlar; Welsh slate roof. 2 storeys, 4 bays with higher, 2-storey, one-bay cross wing to left. Right 3 bays are the original building. Central boarded door in chamfered segment-headed surround with keystone. Above the door a rustic statue c.3 ft. high, of Bacchus seated on a barrel. Renewed sash windows in original, narrow early C18 openings. To left of this a linking bay of later C18. Boarded door with fanlight on ground floor, 6-pane sash above. Left bay projects and has plinth, ground-floor sill and lintel bands and 1st floor band. On the ground floor a stepped tripartite window in raised surround; Venetian window, with radial glazing bars, in similar surround above. Steeply-pitched gabled roof with end stacks to original building and ridge stack above linking bay. Cross wing has hipped roof. To rear, catslide roof over continuous outshut; small projecting gabled wing to left and outside stone stairs to upper room of cross wing. Interior not seen. ,
