Lych Gate. Probably contemporary with the church (qv), 1864-1866 and to the designs of the church architect, Rowell of Newton Abbot. Local red breccia walls with bathstone dressings support a timber structure with a slate roof. PLAN: Sited below and S of the church. Low, coped stone walls with an openwork timber superstructure support a gabled slate roof with sprocketed eaves. The timber superstructure each side is 3 bays of cusped arcading. Gables have tie beam trusses with kingposts with curved braces and pierced spandrels below the ties. Gable ends decorated with cusped bargeboards with pierced decoration. Common rafter roof with diagonal boarding behind the rafters. Pair of contemporary openwork timber gates, complete with original hinges. Iron verticals below the middle rail with fleur-de-lis finials and cusped braces above. Part of an attractive 1860s group including the church, rectory and school.
