notes: ROTHBURY CRAGSIDE LODGE NU 0602 NU 06690243 23/284 Chimney on hilltop west of B6341, 420 metres north- west of Cragside Park House II Chimney. Third quarter of C19, for Lord Armstrong. Squared stone. Square stack 2.5 metres high, with coping fallen. This chimney, along with another (q.v.) lower down the hill, was part of an elaborate ventilation system for Lord Armstrong's conservatory (q.v.); a fire lit at the base of each chimney would draw smoky air up a long underground flue away from the heating apparatus below the conservatory.
