• notes: SEATON SLUICE A 193 NZ 37 NW NZ 342759 (East side, off) Hartley 5/103 Boundary wall around Fort House, with attached structures GV II* Boundary wall with attached structures, formerly perimeter wall of fort. c.1917, incorporating earlier structures on south. Concrete, except on the south where coursed rubble with slag coping. Rectangular enclosure broken by extensions to Fort House, south of centre on east side. Flat-topped concrete wall 1.2-1.5 metres high, with frequent internal buttresses carrying stubs of stanchions for barbed wire fencing. Small gateways on north, and in south part of east wall. Projecting pill box with canted external angle at north-west corner, has steel embrasures with cover plates. Attached blockhouse near south end of west side has similar embrasure in external wall; internally 2 boarded doors on north and two 4-pane sash windows on south. Flat concrete roof. South wall has entrance gate near west end; concrete piers with pyramidal caps, painted white. Further east wall incorporates one end of a building, probably of C18 date. Rare survival of a World War I fort; the north-west pillbox is said to be unique in the North of England. ,
